The new live mail is much better than the old hotmail. It's a lot more like outlook and drag and drop message sorting, right-click menus, and an all-around improved interface. Another nice thing is that it gives you a listing of messages and folders on the right while you are reading messages. That comes in really handy for sorting and deleting.

In short, I would highly recommend upgrading.

I like photoshop a lot. However, my favorite alternative is Paint.NET. It's free, open source, has layers, and all the basic stuff. GIMP is nice if you can manage it, but I find it a real pain to learn and use (and I hate their exploded window interface).

Quote by drastikhateI got a Canon S3 IS. Good camera with good features built in but I hate it that it cant take RAW =(

Don't feel too bad about not having raw. While it is nice in some situations, it's most often used as a way to save pictures I otherwise screwed up (white balance, etc.).

I always shoot JPEG+RAW. Though to be honest, I only use it 1% of the time or less.

Ken Rockwell has a nice editorial on raw vs jpeg.

I made one successful edit to a gallery comment. However, the second edit failed to show my changes in the actual thread. Refreshing and retrying do not help.

The info is saved to the database correctly, since re-editing after saving will show the additional changes. The preview also appears correct, so it's not a bbcode problem. Yet, after saving and going back to the page, the changes are not present.

Has anyone else seen this?

I tend to like characters with pink, blue, or red hair. Of course it depends a lot on the character and how style as well, but that's the general idea.

The seed to peer count sounds very suspicious. I almost suspect that some people may be fake seeding that torrent in an effort to tie up people.

Torrents normally have a seed-to-peer ratio of about 20% (more on private trackers). However, 400% is just ludicrous, especially considering the number. I would check to see if the torrent is legitimate.

This also reminds me of a similar situation my friend ran into. It was the same thing with an insane number of seeds, however, the files had a virus/trojan in them.

Beware.

I grabbed IE7 at work since most of our intranet pages require IE. It's a big improvement over IE6. However, it's not a good browser for general internet tasks and won't encroach on firefox's territory.

Flash drives are great for moving files around and keeping small stuff handy. However, hard drives are still king for data storage.

I'm not sure where people get the idea that flash drives are faster than hard drives. There aren't any moving parts, but their performance is still pretty bad compared to HDDs, especially with lots of small files.

f

I prefer CCCP since it uses directshow filters that I consider to be the best. K-lite on the other hand typically includes many codecs that are capable of playing the same file types. This almost inevitably leads to conflicts, weird glitches, buggy playback, and other difficult to diagnose problems.

According to the specs 1280x1024 @85Hz is the recommended resolution. That does seem odd for a CRT since normally LCDs use that resolution vs 1280x960. Running 1280x1024 may produce a better image on that monitor or your video drivers may simply not support 1280x960.

In any case I don't think it's a big deal, you can always adjust the screen position/size if the aspect ratio is off. I use a lot of 1280x960 walls at 1280x1024 and the stretching isn't too noticeable.

Check the fan on your card, make sure it is running and use an air duster to clean out the heatsink/fan as well. It sounds like an overheating problem since it builds gradually.

I previously replied in this thread that I was using the nforce 2 apu. However, for the past 6 months I have been using a EMU 1212m and love it. It gives fantastically clear and crisp sound, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a nice amp and good speakers / headphones (not worth it if you have cheap speakers).

f

I do not since I only reboot the system ever 2-6 weeks. It also doesn't play startup sounds since the E-MU patch mix software isn't loaded yet during startup (and sound output requires it). In some ways it's a bit annoying, but that's a tradeoff of having a HQ soundcard.

You can get wavpack plugins for audio players here http://www.wavpack.com/downloads.html That will allow you to play the files.

If you really need to convert them (for an mp3 player or something), I would recommend MediaMonkey ( http://mediamonkey.com/ ) because it's easy to use and free.

f

I use it when looking for older walls that are top quality. However, it's not so useful on a day-to-day basis. I really wish there was an easier entry point rather than going to the browsing options.

f

You can get some CAT5 and make a long audio video cable to connect your computer to the TV. I did that back in university; I had a 50-75 foot cable without problems.

f

AOL-speak really gets annoying if people use it too much. People use it a shortcut because they can't type well, but in reality it's just slowing/stopping their acquisition of typing skills.

Leet is less annoying, which may be in part because I see it less. Some terms like warez and own are very useful in talking about computer stuff. I used to make a point of making fun of l33t all the time and still sometime sat "____ is t3h suck", which is more of a parody on the common typo of teh instead of the which seems to be a common joke on IRC.

f

Most often I see it used as cheap filler for blank space on a wall. I really don't like when people use the same image at twice the size as the ghost.

It can be handy for screening less elite walls in the gallery.

f

It looks like it still isn't fixed for me. Everything I download and save is downloaded again as it has been for some time.

[Edit] It looks like it may be working now. I actually saw one get saved without re-downloading.
[Edit 2] Well, I'm seeing a bit of both now, but I don't really download enough to characterize it.

f

It's not a physical problem with the hard drive; if it was, you would have much bigger problems than a lack of space.

I would recommend using a program such as JDiskReport to find what is taking up large chunks of disk space.

This page has an example of some javascript that can be used to make an overlapping content block. It's designed to be used when clicked on, but you should be able to modify it to use the on mouse over events.

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex5/overlapcontent.htm

You might want to consider forgoing the intro page. They can be annoying and, in my opinion, look unprofessional. The perfect example being http://zombo.com/ . If you really want to do it, then spacing the images and text with fixed width DIVs should work.

I'm not sure what the table for your 'skip intro' link is for. I would recommend using the width CSS property on the DIV if your intent is to use it to set the width.

Isn't javascript normally put in the HEAD element to make sure it loads before the rest of the page, or is that just a common convention?

I don't know how much good a cleaner disc will do if the drive doesn't play discs at all. The ones I have seen tell you to play a certain track so the lens is above the cleaning brush. I tried one once when my CD burner died and it didn't do jack. It may be a waste of money, so watch out. Has anyone else had one save a drive before?

You may want to try a standard air duster. It may blow dust in farther and make things worse, but it sounds like it's worth a shot if nothing else works.

Another less likely possibility, but your IDE cable may have gone bad. If you're comfortable with working on the inside of computers and have an extra cable lying around, try swapping it.

In my experience, older optical drives tend to die. I would avoid investing too much money in attempted fixes vs the cost of a replacement.

The following in in the response headers and suggests that caching is not allowed. Another side effect that is especially annoying is how if you accidentally hit back when typing a post, it is lost forever since the pages always refresh. That seriously discourages writing long posts.

Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0

Why not surround emocations with brackets or colons like many other forums? [xp] or :Xp:

[Edit] well it seems that :X (lower case x) is also an emocation. This makes it very hard to type technical stuff.
